We wholeheartedly believe in the priesthood of all believers – every follower of Jesus is a minister. There are many people in leadership at Renew. Some are in official capacities, but most lead in unofficial ways, big and small.
Renew is an elder-led church. Elders provide direction, spiritual oversight and cultivation of our unique ethos attempting to ensure that we are following Christ, living out the values of the kingdom and led by the Spirit.
We have a Leadership Community, consisting of several leaders who serve in various capacities (house church shepherds, worship leaders, key volunteers, etc.).
We also have staff that serves not by doing the work for the church, but in working to equip the church to participate in God’s plan together.
Doug Moister, Pastor
Doug Moister serves as a full time pastor at the Renew Community. He serves as the lead Shepherd to Renew, oversees and leads the House Church Shepherds, worship leaders and Renew Families. He and his wife Mear accepted the call to come on staff with Renew in 2011. Today, besides his pastoral and preaching duties with Renew, Doug is a theology nerd, a life long learner, and an enthusiastic ice hockey official. Doug and Mear enjoy spending time with their kids and thanking God for all He has done and continues to do in the community.
J.R. Briggs, Pastor
J.R. Briggs, along with his wife Megan, stepped out and led a team of people in 2008 to start a Jesus community with a vision to unleash fresh expressions and fresh extensions of the kingdom of God throughout Southeastern PA. He is the Cultural Cultivator of Renew, leads the elder team, spearheads the teaching responsibilities in the gatherings and oversees the big-picture vision of the church.
In addition to working closely with Doug in shepherding Renew, J.R. started Kairos Partnerships, a ministry focused on serving, equipping and caring for pastors, church planters and kingdom leaders locally and around the country. He graduated from Taylor University and spent time studying at Jerusalem University College. He also received his masters degree from Biblical Theological Seminary.
J.R. likes to read compelling books, work out, watch Michigan football, cheer for the Phillies, spend quality time in his canoe and play wiffle ball with his family in the backyard. He and Megan have two boys, Carter and Bennett, and live in the heart of the borough of Lansdale.
